History of Uganda Women’s Cricket Team
The journey of the Uganda women’s cricket team began with their first matches in a triangular series involving the Kenya women’s cricket team in January 2006. There first major outings in the cricketing world were when they participated in the African regional qualifiers for the 2009 World Cup, finishing third.
A significant milestone was achieved in April 2018 when the International Cricket Council (ICC) granted full Women’s Twenty20 International (WT20I) status to all its members, allowing Uganda to play official WT20I matches. Their first WT20I match was against the Scotland women’s cricket team in July 2018 and in June 2019, the Uganda women’s cricket team scored a record 314 runs against Mali in June 2019, the highest total in a T20 international match for any team, male or female.
