Bhutan Cricket Team Guide

Bhutan’s cricket team, commonly known as “The Dragons,” represents the Kingdom of Bhutan in international cricket. The team is managed by the Bhutan Cricket Council Board. They made their international debut in 2003 and have since been a regular participant in various tournaments organized by the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) and the World Cricket League.

History of Bhutan Cricket Team

The Bhutan cricket team became an affiliate member of the International Cricket Council (ICC) in 2001. Bhutan played its first international matches in 2003 in a tri-nation series against the Maldives cricket team and Nepal cricket team. Their first international victory was against Iran. Over the years, they have participated in various ACC tournaments and also in the World Cricket League events.

Full Twenty20 International status was granted to the Bhutan cricket team in April 2018. Bhutan played their first full Twenty20 International in December 2019, against Nepal.

Namgay Thinley and Ngawang Thinley were the first two players to take 10 individual wickets for the Bhutan cricket team in T20I cricket, with the latter being the first to take 4 wickets in a single game.

Memorable Games For The Bhutan Cricket Team

One of the memorable games for Bhutan was their first-ever T20I match against Nepal on 5 December 2019. Although they lost the match by 141 runs, it marked a significant milestone in their cricketing journey.
