History of Saint Helena National Cricket Team
Saint Helena’s cricket team first competed internationally in April 2012, playing against the Cameroon cricket team at the ICC Africa Division 3 T20 Tournament in South Africa to mark their debut. They also achieved victories against the Morocco cricket team, Gambia cricket team, and Mali cricket team, finishing fifth out of eight teams. The team’s journey to South Africa was notable, as they had to raise £24,000 and make a five-day sea trip, since the island did not have an airport at that time. In 2018, they gained full Twenty20 International (T20I) status, allowing all their T20 matches against other ICC members to be recognised as official T20Is.
