Quetta Gladiators Cricket Team Guide

Quetta Gladiators are one of the founding members of the Pakistan Super League, formed back in 2015. The team is based in the city of Quetta in the state of Balochistan towards the western border of Pakistan.

Purchased for $11 million following the announcement of the PSL by the Pakistan Cricket Board, the Quetta Gladiators were one of the inaugural members of the competition. The teams primary colours are purple and gold, wit the teams logo depicting a Roman Galea helmet, lending itself to the teams ‘Gladiator’ based name.

Where Do Quetta Gladiators Play?

With a capacity of just 5,000, the Bugti Stadium is the smallest home ground in the PSL. This was founded back in 1954 and despite its size, it is still the home ground of the Quetta Gladiators and has even hosted an ODI for the Pakistan national cricket team.

In terms of domestic talent, the Quetta Gladiators have had a plethora of notable players, some of these including Sarfaraz Ahmed, Ahmed Shehzad, Mohammad Nawaz and Mohammad Hasnain.

The Quetta Gladiators have also had a number of big name overseas players also play for them such as Australia cricket team player Shane Watson, Jason Roy of the England cricket team, South African star Rilee Rossouw and West Indies white ball icon Chris Gayle.

Memorable Games For The Quetta Gladiators Cricket Team

In the 2019 Pakistan Super League, the Quetta Gladiators finished second in the league stage, winning 7 out of their 10 games. As a result of this, they would go on to play a qualifier match against Peshawar Zalmi, with them winning the toss and choosing to field first. Shane Watson led the Gladiators in their batting endeavours, scoring 71 runs from just 43 balls as the Quetta side finished on a score of 186 runs. Although this seemed like a difficult target to beat, Peshawar managed to respond impressively, narrowly losing by just 10 runs, sending the Gladiators to the final.

After winning their eliminator match against Islamabad United, a rematch between the Quetta Gladiators and Peshawar Zalmi would be on the cards. This time around though, the Gladiators would win the toss, choosing to field first. Mohammad Hasnain managed to take 3 wickets as the Peshawar side were limited to a 138 run target. With their turn at the crease, the Quetta side managed to respond to the chase in inspirational fashion, only conceding two wickets as a whole. Ahmed Shehzad would put up a 58 run match high score, not being bowled out as the Gladiators won with 2 overs to spare, claiming their first PSL title in the process.

Although being located on opposite sides of the country almost, the Quetta Gladiators and Peshawar Gladiators rivalry is one of the biggest in the PSL, with the two sides having a flourishing sense of competitiveness against one another since the competition began.
