Playing in the Indian Premier League, the Lucknow Super Giants are one of the franchise teams taking part in the competition. This team hails from Lucknow in the north of India and first entered the IPL back in 2021.

The Lucknow Super Giants owners are the RPSG Group who previously owned the Rising Pune Supergiant between the years 2016 and 2017. The team actually launched a competition to decide upon its franchise name, with Lucknow Super Giants being decided upon in the January of 2022.

The home ground of the Lucknow Super Giants is the Ekana Cricket Stadium, with this being located in the Uttar Pradesh region Lucknow also calls home. The stadium was first built back in 2014, with it having a capacity of 50,000. This is amongst one of the larger cricketing grounds in India!

Amongst the first Lucknow Super Giants players were South African national cricket team star Quinton de Kock, England cricket team player Mark wood and Australian Marcus Stoinis. There have been a wide number of domestic players to play for the team as well, with Ravi Bishnoi and Yash Thakur being two notable bowlers for the team.

Kannanur Lokesh Rahul was appointed the first captain of the Lucknow Super Giants, with former Zimbabwe cricket team star Andy Flower being selected as the first coach.

Memorable Games For The Lucknow Super Giants Cricket Team

In 2022, the Lucknow Super Giants finished 3rd in their respective league, winning 9 of their 15 games. As a result of this, they were elected to play in an eliminator match to decide who progressed to the playoffs. This saw them face off against the Royal Challengers Bangalore, and despite their impressive form in the run up to the decking match, they fell short and were knocked out.ย 

The same exact thing happened in the following season, once again finishing 3rd but falling to 4th place to Mumbai Indians in the crucial eliminator match. Although losing out on playoffs in two consecutive years, it marked the ambition and drive the Lucknow Super Giants had despite only being a new entrant into the IPL.

The main rivals of the Lucknow Super Giants are the Royal Challengers Bangalore. These two sides have had a number of highly competitive matches against one another, with the same going for the Chennai Super Kings, despite the latter not sharing the same level of rivalry as the two aforementioned sides.
