Seychelles Cricket Team Guide

The Seychelles cricket team represents the country of Seychelles in international cricket. The team is organised by the Seychelles Cricket Association (SCA), which became an affiliate member of the International Cricket Council (ICC) in 2010 and an associate member in 2017.

History of Seychelles Cricket Team

Cricket in Seychelles can be traced back to the 19th century, following the surrender of the Seychelles to the British Empire in the 1814 Treaty of Paris. However, after gaining independence from the United Kingdom in 1979, cricket saw a decline in the islands.

The sport has recently seen a resurgence, primarily driven by expatriate communities from cricket-playing nations and also involving local residents. Seychelles played in triangular tournaments with the Maldives cricket team and Maurindia of Mauritius. In 2010, the SCA president announced the country’s intention to apply for affiliate membership of the ICC, which was granted, making Seychelles the 105th member of the ICC. The team made its international debut in the 2011 ICC Africa Twenty20 Division Three tournament in Ghana.

Where Does The Seychelles Cricket Team Play?

While the Seychelles Cricket team does not have a specific stadium where they play cricket, it has been announced that they are going to build an international cricket stadium. This stadium comes with hopes that it helps to encourage the growth of cricket in the island nation and to host more matches for the home nation against other international cricket teams

Former Captains Of The Seychelles Cricket Team

One of the known captains of the Seychelles cricket team is Kaushal Patel, who captained the team during the 2012 ICC Africa Twenty20 Division Three tournament. Seychelles finished as the runner-up to the Zambia cricket team. They played eight matches over five days, winning six and losing two games, both to Zambia. Notably, Seychelles defended a total of 71 runs against the Cameroon cricket team, winning by nine runs. They also defeated Saint Helena in a super over with a six off the last ball with Patel leading his country out in all of these matches.

Rivals Of The Seychelles Cricket Team

Seychelles biggest competitors are those that are geographically close by. With the country having a small cricket fan base most of their games are played against local cricket teams, like the Malawi cricket team, Kenya cricket team and the Uganda cricket team
