The USA’s international bow against a major Test playing nation was a chastening experience in the 2004 Champions Trophy held in England. The USA cricket team faced New Zealand in their first match at The Oval. After winning the toss and electing to bowl first they enjoyed some early success dismissing Kiwi captain Stephen Fleming and Hamish Marshall cheaply but partnership between Nathan Astle and Scott Stiris put the Black Caps in command before Craig Mcmillan smashed seven sixes in 64 not out from just 27 balls to take the game away from the US. Astle finished 145 not out as New Zealand finished 347 for 4. The USA cricket team were never really in the game from then on but veteran former West Indies cricket team player Clayton Lambert did score 39, they fell short by over 200 runs. In December 2021, the USA cricket team achieved its first ever International victory against a Test playing nation when they defeated the Ireland cricket team in a T20I at Lauderhill, Florida. Batting first the US cricket team were struggling on 16 for 4 but Sushant Modani (50) and Gajanad Singh (65) produced a 110 partnership before a quickfire 39 not out off just 15 balls from Marty Kain elevated the home team to an impressive 188 for 6. The Irish in reply fell 26 runs short to give the USA cricket team a famous and significant victory.
