The Karachi Kings are based in the city of Karachi on the south coast of Pakistan. This side was one of the founding members of the Pakistan Super League and have participated in every outing since the competition began.

After the PSL was announced back in 2015, the Karachi Kings franchise was sold for $26 million to the Ary Media Group. This price tag was actually the highest out of all other franchises within the competition at the time. The team play in blue and gold kits, with the team’s badge brandishing a lion, something that represents the resilience of the city.

The home ground of the Karachi Kings is the National Stadium located in the same city as the franchise. This has a capacity of just over 34,000 and has hosted the Pakistan national cricket team on numerous occasions against various international sides.

Some of the most notable batters who have played for the Karachi Kings include Babar Azam, Imad Wasim, Sharjeel Khan and Colin Ingram, the latter of which has played for the South Africa national cricket team

The side has had a number of big name players in the bowling department too, with Mohammad Amir, Usman Shinwari, Sohail Khan and Chris Jordan of the England cricket team all taking numerous wickets for the Karachi Kings.

Memorable Games For The Karachi Kings Cricket Team

After winning 5 of their 10 games in the 2020 edition of the PSL, the Karachi Kings finished second in the league stage points table, progressing to a qualifier. Here they would face off against the Multan Sultans, with both sides finishing their 20 overs on a score of 141 runs. However, in the super over that followed, the Karachi Kings would win the match, with Babar Azam putting up a match high score of 65 runs.

This super over victory would see the Karachi Kings progress straight to the final of the 2020 PSL, in which they would play the Lahore Qalandars who had just defeated both Peshawar Zalmi and the Multan Sultans in eliminator matches leading into the final. Fielding first, the Karachi side would limit the Qalandars to 134/7, with Waqas Maqsood and Umaid Asif both taking 2 wickets each. WIth a respectable target, the Kings responded in strong fashion, only conceding 5 wickets. Most notably, Babar Azam once again put up a match best runs total, finishing the game with 63 not out as the Karachi Kings won with an over to spare. This would be the first PSL win for Karachi marking a significant moment in the team’s history.
